Kidrobot to launch Boulder operations on March 1
Vinyl toy company Kidrobot is expected to begin operations in a downtown Boulder office space on March 1.
The local operation of T-shirt-maker Threadless and Boulder-based Napkin Labs Inc. are moving out of a 6,600-square-foot second-floor office suite at 1468 Pearl St. to accommodate Kidrobot's new headquarters operation, officials for Threadless and Napkins Labs said.
Kidrobot's founder told the Camera earlier this year that he planned to move his company to Boulder from Manhattan. The hope was to find a downtown Boulder locale for the approximate 20-person work force, founder Paul Budnitz said at the time.
Budnitz could not be reached for comment about the move.
Napkin Labs, a collaborative product development consultancy that occupied 200 square feet of Threadless' Boulder office, is moving to a 400-square-foot office at 1727 15th St., said Warren Ng, co-founder. Napkin Labs has "just been rocking" since its September 2009 founding and the bigger space will allow the firm to bring on a couple new hires, Ng said.
Threadless plans to move out of its office space by March 1 and most likely will settle in a smaller, 1,500-square-foot office, said Jake Nickell, Threadless' founder.
When Chicago-based Threadless opened its Boulder office three years ago, the plan was the build a development team, Nickell said.
"Within that time, we then decided to do our expanding in Chicago," Nickell said in an e-mail to the Camera. "We are currently moving from our 25,000-square-foot facility in Chicago to a 40,000-square-foot facility and doing all of our hiring (in Chicago) ... it's possible we may hire out here eventually for more community positions but our new office space will be much smaller, more around 1,500 square feet."
